Open protocols
A BMS that works with equipment from different manufacturers
A building rarely has HVAC plant, lighting controls, meters and sensors from a single manufacturer, particularly once it has been extended or refitted over the years. Resco designs its Honeywell-based BMS around open protocols, including BACnet, LonWorks, Modbus, OPC and ODBC, so that field devices and sub-systems from different manufacturers can be brought onto the same platform rather than left running as isolated systems with their own separate controls and displays.
This matters as much for a new building, where the design team may specify chillers, pumps, lighting controls or metering from several vendors, as it does for an existing building where Resco is asked to bring an ageing set of standalone controls under one system. In both cases, the open-protocol approach means the BMS is not tied to a single equipment supplier going forward.
